Ifani engineers his way to selling Gold in just over a day

For a country that has struggled wit hip hop album sales over the years, we've been doing pretty well since 2014 thanks to Cassper and Kiernan bringing the game to life. Last year Cassper sold Gold, which is 20 000 records in South Africa, in under 3 months and K.O also sold in Gold in about the same period. AKA is yet to go Gold but seems to be selling well and should be close. These are the leaders of the pack from what we see, and we had no one else in mind who would become a commercial success.

Come Ifani, ex engineer, who the majority of the hip hop fraternity wasn't paying attention to who announces that he's aiming to sell 20 000 copies in a day. We all shrugged off the possibility cause we didn't even know what the name of his current single was. But he was determined, we saw and heard him everywhere; even Top Billing gave him a platform to share his ambitious goal.

Well on Thursday 29 April 2015 Ifani dropped his album which sold +/-17 500 in 24 hours thanks to pre-orders and a loyal fanbase who went out and bought the albums. He may have fallen short on his goal by a few hours but this is no less than remarkable. Ifani may have left his career as an engineer, but he has certainly engineered a way to make the fastest sales in SA hip hop history (sorry Cassper). Congratulations to him and hopefully our hip hop game grows even bigger from here on.
