Yeezus Review - ("I Just Spoke to Jesus..He said what up Yeezus")

I have no guilt in reviewing a leaked album fortunately...not even the album of “a god” as Yey is proclaiming on this album and quite possibly in real life. One thing he is is a father now and I’m glad he released an album pre-fatherhood so we could hear what possibly could be his hardest raps before fatherhood. Once you’re a father things change, and Yey, god or not, will venture the same course.
Now I’m not sure sure why Yey decided against even a photoshoot for the album, maybe some budget constraints since he’s spending on his new girl and baby; buying a new house and no doubt mountains of stuff for the baby. But clearly, unlike other rappers out there, YEY DOES NOT NEED AN ALBUM COVER OR FRESH PICTURES TO SELL ALBUMS AND SELL OUT ARENAS.

One thing I’ve always loved about Yey’s albums is that each track is an experience, it’s not just a verse on dope beats. He always finds a way to create a scenario for each song before he utters the first rhyme. He did that on the previous album, on Watch The Throne, he did it on the G.O.O.D Music mixtape Cold Summer and he did that on YEEZUS aswell. Yeezus is also multifaceted, nothing is constant, expected the unexpected and get it. I expected the whole album to be on his slavery, religion, racial tip as he did with his “single” New Slaves; but it’s not and it’s not as raw as I anticipated. Kanye has not dropped a single for the album by the way and the album drops tomorrow, we've only heard him perform it and a small snippet of it was out until the full album leak.

I’m yet to see the album credits to see who produced the joints on the album but that’s also a bit of a mystery since the album cover is sleeveless, no artwork ; just some red tape labelled Yeezus. A brave man indeed, more arrogance than brave though but we still pay attention. One thing is for sure though, the album does NOT have a track for radio or for the club. It’s just for banging in your car or while chillin’ with your friends. There’s no track, not even one that will be on heavy radio station on ANY commercial radio station. Maybe “Black Skinhead” but the name alone will have radio execs doubting whether they can play it, but nothing else. Some DJ remixes look in order.
Despite only 10 tracks on the piece which is my only let down, I’m impressed with Yey plainly because he has managed to suprise me once again. I anticipated weak desperate raps and weak production since he’s on his 6th commercial album, which many artists fall vistim to, but no. It’s different to any other rap album you’ll find on the shelf...or on the net, which qualifies it worthy already. The good, controversial raps and vocals are a bonus. We still got the same Yey and he’s still making GOOD Music.  Thumbs up from the Tiger @ttigersstory.
