The Nike Swoosh Only Cost A Few Dollars - Did You Know Mondays

The famous Nike “swoosh” that is possibly the most recognizable brand among sports attire in history cost cofounder of Nike, Phil knight, only $35 in 1971. He told the designer, Carolyn Davidson, that he didn’t love the logo but it will grow on him. Well it not only grew on him, but grew to make him a huge billionaire and the brand grew to be a monstrous empire. Phil used to be an accounting teacher, simultaneously  running a company called Blue Ribbon Sports (BRS).

BRS used to import Onitsuka Tiger brand shoes but in 1971 decided to manufacture its own shoes called “The Nike”. Which we now all know as just Nike. To show his gratitude to Carolyn Davidson, the designer, Phil gave her a diamond swoosh ring and an envelope filled with Nike stock to express his gratitude. This was in 1983 when the brand had received great success.
The Nike brand represents the wing of the Greek goddess, an abstract wing. It is now one of the most powerful brands in the world.
