The Business Behind Wiz Khalifa

It remains to be seen if Wiz Khalifa, Kaizer Chiefs Black and Yellow, is a one hit wonder. But one thing he's not is small minded. He's not just into the quick money, girls and fame. Wiz made $11 million between 1 June 2010 to 30 May 2011, the same amount Drake made in that timespan. Sure he made alot of money from his hit single Black and Yellow which blue up charts and got him about 135 shows in that timespan (more than any other rapper). But only half of his yearly earnings was attributed to his music. The rest was off merchandising at his shows.

Incase you didnt know, Wiz has his own "weed" rolling papers out called "Wiz Khalifa Rolling Papers" which is also the name of his latest album. His whole image has become being a pothead becasue either than get him mad high it also makes serious money for him. Here's an illustration to paint a clearer picture of how much money Wiz makes per show:
First of all Wiz rakes in $5 - $15 dollars per head at his shows when most other rappers make $2 - $3 dollars per head. Then he sells shirts and hoodies at his shows, the hoodies go for $60 dollars and are black and yellow with "WZ" on them. He's also said to sell between 150 - 200 packs of his Wiz Khalifa branded rolling papers at $42 dollars each. If you make your own calculations by estimating how many people come to his shows you get the idea of how much he's raking in. This is impressive and some thing for South African rappers should learn from.
