When it was all over and the hosts said goodnight, they were
really talking to Zahara, AKA, Micasa and DJ Cleo. They were the ones who had the
really good night. This night was confirmation to them of all the beliefs they
had about themselves but had never really been confirmed.
Zahara confirmed she was Queen of the game, scooping most of
the awards she was nominated for except for Record of the Year. That’s 8 SAMAs
at one go when she’s only really been in the game for 8 months ironically. That
also confirmed the millions more coming in the bank for her and hopefully DJ
Sbu paying all his debts.
AKA confirmed once and for all that he is the king of S.A’s
hip-hop game right now and that L-Tido is dragging farrrrr behind. Best Street
Urban or whatever and Best Male Artist, I’m pretty sure the Glitz Gang felt
like the Glitch Gang after a year with no awards. 4 or 5 guys against one and
they still lose? Nizoba grand though.
Micasa confirmed that a white guy can sing and dance like a
black guy and win the biggest awards in the country. They also proved that you
can be more creative when performing, though I don’t think they really pulled
the performance off purely because you could see everyone moving the lights and
ish TOO CLEARLY. And that a trumpet player can be somewhat cool in house music.
It’s kinda weird though, the white guy leading the black people… It’s like our
freeways were the supervisor’s always black hehehe. (I already see some people
trippin’ over this statement… It’s just a joke people)
And Cleo confirmed that you can spend years in the game and
still stay relevant, even if you release predictable songs that EVERYBODY
criticizes. He shut his critics up, he does it every year. And with a total of
12 SAMAs to his name, he has some valuable items to sell should his music go
down and he ends up broke hehehe. Cleo should open a company that manages other
musician’s online sales since he’s so good at it. I think people would actually
be willing to pay for that service.
And overall the SAMAs looked incredible. The stage and the
entire setup were on point. The inserts were entertaining and executed efficiently.
It certainly surpassed my expectations after the disaster that was SAMA17 in
2011.
