The goldmine that JR izzz - He certainly made his circle bigger

Many might question JR's lyrical ability, one of those people being me. But the fact is JR's singles are bloody goldmines. You can't help but bump your head and sing along. From the 1st album to the current one, JR really knows how to get out there. I have come to the conclusion that JR is not a rapper, but rather a businessman who knows how to spot opportunity. Currently he has 2 goldmines.

The 1st mine was opened in 2008 with his 1st album "The Main Event". The other songs on the album are merely the staff, the offices and the equipment necessary to find mine the gold. The gold mined here was the hit single that had everyone singing "Kgata lina jo, kgata lina". The song got him an endorsement from  Renault at age 22, he was nominated for Best hip hop in the Metro Awards and Best Rap record at 2009 SAMAs. He's not one to give a mediocre performance he usually has a live band and sometimes an 8 piece string section. He shared a stage with The Game in Swaziland, T-Pain in Bloemfontein then John Legend and Keri Hilson during their nationwide tour. Then JR realised that the gold mine was slowly starting to diminish, so he left it with skeleton staff to manage its royalties and other income it could obtain. Now he's on mine number 2.

In late 2009 he opened a new mine, one that didn't just mine gold but had emeralds and rubies too. He called it "Colourfull". He partnered with Joe Rasdine and HHP, 2 people with alot of experince in roundness, and he literally made his circle bigger. With everyone black, white, indian and even squares chanting "make the circle beeeger".  We began hearing the song on adverts on radio and TV aswell, the gold of this mine is unending. Now he's got a new song talking about tequila, "1 tequila, 2 tequila, 3 tequila, 4...". A catchy ravey/pop track clearly focussed to get the white market, which he won over with "Show dem". JR understands the business and is clearly getting some money for the risks he's been taking. I'm very impressed.

I took a bold step this year and bought Khuli Chana's album in my bid to support local artists. Not a good idea, I gave the disc away. Wherever my cousin is I'm sure he gave it away too.I'm going to take another bold step and buy this one aswell, I have a feeling I'll regret it but JR has certainly earned it. Now only if they could reveal how many records they sold and how much money they make. South Africa would be such a better place.
