We all know where their boss is, what he does, and who their boss was. "Umzeke"or Sbu Leope is in his plush house tweeting about Khumbulekhaya on a Wednesday when he's not on Metro, TV or in Ekurhuleni making bag loads of money. But where did he leave the other members of his former "Izinyoka" crew? The most prominent and more relevant being Brown Dash and 51 cent.
Under TS records Brown Dash was the man. Him and DJ Sbu or Mzeke were seemingly inseperable and a kwaito power house with back to back hit singles. With songs like "Phans' gomthunz' welanga", "Siya jiva agekho ugogo", "Puff and pass" and many more. Brown Dash was the new Kwaito hit kid. He also had his own individual mega hit blockbusters, remember the Yizo Yizo sound track song feat. Kabelo "Amasoja"? (When Kabelo was still fat and into that white powder you sniff) Then there was also Miki mouse, Mthandazo wabolova and Nomalizo. etc etc.
There's no doubt he was a talented artist, his album went quadrupple platinum selling over 100 000 albums on debut, he has won countless awards in the Metro and SAMA awards and was respected by the greats during his time. His fall came when he decided to join Ntando in quitting TS records, he decided to go join Cleo on the Wheels of Steel which signaled the end of his career. After that we heard less and less of him on the radio and more about him in Sunday World. TS took his car away after he couldn't finish payment on the vehicle. He owed TS R36 000 with regards to the car and when he got a loan to buy the car from TS they refused to sell it to him. Then things started spirraling, he's long time girlfriend left him and now his health is deteriorating, earlier this year he was admitted to hospital for pneumonia where he spent 3 weeks in hospital. Apparently he's stressed to the point of physical illness, what has Mzeke done.
The other Izinyoka's must be down and out aswell, but for Brown Dash it's a bigger fall as he actually had something to lose. Seems Dash got the short end of the stick as Ntando and Cleo's careers flourished after they left TS, it must be him. From stardom to star DOM, he just didn't have the business part of the music right and so he fell. Mzekezeke had the physical mask on his face and the figurative one on Dash as he didn't see how the business worked. I do not blame TS for Brown's fall, I blame Brown for not expecting to be screwed. You have to have a back up plan, for his sake I hope there's a plan Z. Looks like he's on his last chance.
