Wonder why they call you bitch!!!!

“Wonder why they call you bitch. I wonder why they call you bitch” That was 2Pacs response to wide criticism of his music being chauvinistic, demeaning and generally condescending towards women. In the song he tells a story of a young girl who gets caught up the fast life. In the story the girl generally dates and sleeps with gentlemen of a higher social wellbeing, status and wealth. In interviews done after this track, 2Pac explains that in his music, when he uses the word “bitch” he isn’t saying all women are “bitches” and is only referring to a section of them. He admits the there are ladies out there just as much as there are bitches.

This got me thinking out of the box and realised that just as much there was method in 2Pacs and other artists use of the word, it is still greatly misinterpreted by the general public and in turn used randomly. Everywhere you go and spend time with the guys it’s bound to come up at some point or another. “no she’s a ho… she’s a bitch… Oh that ho”. I’ve also picked up that it’s not always said in a condescending manner but as a term of affection by some gentlemen. Some guys use it as the word bitch to refer to their girlfriends, fiancé’s and wives.

For as far back as recorded history goes, mankind has been a predominantly patriarchal society. That’s probably the main reason why women don’t have much of a social standing in minds of men. Have you ever wondered why it socially acceptable for guys to sleep around, beat up women and have the final word on anything while it is considered a great shame and dishonour if a woman were to reciprocate these actions? In fact, men are commended for these actions and they are generally considered signs of manhood to sleep around, take control and have the final say. It is only in recent days where women have take stronger roles and still fighting for equal rights to men. The way things are going, they will win the fights in courts but in our hearts and minds the battle has hardly begun.

In the track Maria, Tumi; a South African rap artist; tells a similar story. A story of a girl who discovers the power of her beauty and turn uses it to get whatever she wants, gets caught up in the fast life and before she knows it she’s old, no skills and no longer beautiful and has two kids to raise.

To be honest, I’m a big fan of liberal women who love sex as much as the gentlemen do. I don’t have a problem with women taking charge and leading with a purpose. I’m all for women approaching a guy and making the first move. I’m all for women studying, working and not just being barefoot in the kitchen. In my mind, women can have sex as many times as they want, with whoever they want as long as it’s safe and is sone with style, class and obviously not cheating on anyone. If not, you just a bitch because that’s what female dogs do. And you sleep with guys because they drive this, live there and have a platinum credit card; no offence; YOU A WHORE! And then you wonder why we call you bitch!!!
