one of the contestantsIt's a Miss Soweto beauty pageant with a twist. Twenty gorgeous hopefuls will be moving into their new reality home in a southern suburb of Joburg today.
This year's pageant has taken on a whole new dimension since it will have its own reality TV show, which will be broadcast on Soweto TV (Channel 150 on DStv) until the crowning event on October 29. Viewers will win prizes while they vote for their favourite contestant in the 31st annual pageant.During the weeks leading up to the pageant, eight contestants will be voted out of the contest but not out of the house.They will stay in the reality home for an internship programme to learn skills required in television show production, such as make-up application, artist management and public relations. The Miss Soweto crown has sat atop many a well-known woman's head, who used it to launch themselves to other opportunities.
