Face of Ekurhuleni - Glamour (More info)

Back when beauty pageants first started, they were viewed as “trivial events whose interpretation required no scholarly effort”. Face of Ekurhuleni has made an effort to ensure that it does not appear as a “stereotypical” pageant. The competition emphasizes the different aspects of women and highlights their personal successes. They strive to give these women the opportunity to rise to the top. Pageant participants return to their hometowns and promote community involvement.
Anyone of any race or colour can enter in it; so generally, all of the contestants will come from different backgrounds. Multiracialism is a widely viewed aspect in this pageant.
Another goal of this pageant is promoting self esteem of the contestant. Girls that compete feel a sense of belonging with the other contestants, and the larger pageant community. This pageant t offers “not just a place, but a particular way and stringently limited terms with which to negotiate a sense of self”.
The skills learned in this pageant are said to last for a lifetime. These contestants will gain the ability to speak in public, and a sense of confidence in them. Winners of such pageants have felt a sense of accomplishment. The winners of this pageant are to become role models for all other girls. The key role in being a queen is to understand and support topical issues. They need to be someone who girls can connect with and apply their lives to. They will be considered an “exemplar of cultural flow”. And size is really no longer a limiting factor as we espouse the goal of “natural” beauty.
Face of Ekurhuleni beauty pageant will take place in November 2010 at the birchwood hotel in Ekurhuleni. The semi finals will commence in August and end at the beginning of September 2010, taking place in five different areas of Ekurhuleni that include Benoni, Springs, Kempton Park, Boksburg, Brakpan, Alberton, Edenvale, etc.
Proceeds of this event will assist in various charity engagements which will be done during and after the pageant, because without the existence of charities, the world would be an infinitely grimmer place, rife with even more poverty, illness and violence than it already is.
As part of our sponsors so far we have Lapeng Village, BarokaWorld, Black Child it’s Possible and i Themba Elihle Trading Enterprise.
We urge all Ekurhuleni citizens / companies to support the ladies raise a sponsorship of at least R2000.00 each to be allocated to the charity organisations selected.
